Router and Modem Continuity Guide

The internet chain in a home or small office is a series of devices, each depending on the one before it: the line enters through a modem or an optical network unit, passes through a router, and reaches devices through WiFi or a switch. A power cut breaks the chain at every device that loses power, so protecting one device while leaving the others on mains power protects nothing. This guide is about that chain, and about the discipline of protecting it whole.

The most common partial protection is the router-only setup. A buyer buys a UPS for the router, plugs the router into it, and leaves the modem on the wall outlet. The first cut then takes the modem down, the router has no internet to distribute, and the buyer concludes, wrongly, that the UPS failed. The UPS did its job; the chain did not, because the chain was never protected. The same error happens with an optical network unit tucked near the entry point and forgotten.

The correction is a list. Write down every device between the line entry and the devices that matter, including the modem or optical network unit, the router, any switch, and any mesh node or access point. Read every label, note every voltage and draw, and add the draws together. Then protect the whole list, whether with one multi-output unit or with several units, and confirm the total against the UPS capacity in the inquiry.

There is a second, subtler chain failure: the device that is protected but misconfigured. A router that reboots when the UPS switches, because the UPS output dips during the changeover, is a chain that fails even though every device has battery behind it. That behaviour is a property of the UPS design, and it is worth asking about in the inquiry for installations where a reboot itself is costly, such as a point-of-sale terminal or a live broadcast.

For a confirmed chain arrangement, state the full device list, the voltages, the total draw, and the required bridge time in the inquiry. Minimum order quantity is confirmed per order, customisation can be discussed, certificates are available upon request, and delivery time is not published. The company contact is Ms. Zita Huang.
